Teens who are interested in learning more about a career in theater can gain experience through a job shadow, teen internships, or a project-based youth leadership position. Joining our Teen Council will also provide youth with many professional development skills applicable to future careers.

Job Shadow

Young adults interested in learning more about a specific career in theater can set up a time during the week to do a job shadow. We will happily work with your school to meet any criteria necessary for taking the time out of the school day to spend a day with a professional theater artist. Select a career in production, artistic, or administration that you are interested in and submit a formal letter of request to Auburn Matson at to set up a job shadow.

Youth Leader Positions

Periodically, we will offer youth leadership opportunities to work directly with our professional Teaching Artists on a project. Youth Leaders will participate in the program, take on a mentorship role for any younger positions, and lead peers through activities and creation of art. Typically Youth Leaders are paid a stipend for their time in addition to the professional training opportunity.

Teen Internships

Semester-long unpaid internships are available for teens who want a deeper dive into learning the operations of a theater company. Internships are based in the Education Department and will include a series of job shadows or project-based work in other departments throughout the theater. We will work with the intern to determine goals for the internship, tailoring the experience to the individual. Teen Council Members are given first priority for Teen Internships. If you are interested in an internship, please contact Auburn Matson at
