Written and Directed by Kevin Ramsey

STACKNER CABARET
Preview: March 6, 2009 Opens: March
7, 2009 Closes: May 10,
2009
From the creator of last season’s hit GRAFTON CITY BLUES comes FIRE
ON THE BAYOU, a steamy musical gumbo that traces the
history of New Orleans jazz. This show will heat up the Stackner
Cabaret with a mixture of jazz, zydeco and Dixieland tunes. Laissez
les bons temps rouler! Tickets can be purchased
in person at The Rep Ticket Office at 108 East Wells Street,
or by telephone at 414-224-9490. Tickets can also be purchased
online 24/7 at milwaukeerep.com.
FIRE ON THE BAYOU transports you to the jazz-filled
streets of New Orleans - a colorful, vibrant city where the saints
go marching in and culture bubbles up from the streets. Though
recently devastated by one of the deadliest hurricanes in U.S.
history, the city of “Nawlins” has not lost its spirit. “Fire
was on the bayou when we heard the news, Katrina blew in the Bourbon
Street blues. Juke joints flooded, yet the music played on.” Join
Spyboy Jambalaya, Queen Mary and the rest of the Gris Gris Executors
as they lead you through an authentic musical journey featuring Sweet
Home New Orleans, Hey Pocky Way, Down by the
Riverside, When the Saints Go Marching In, Mardi Gras
in New Orleans and Fire on the Bayou. Break out your
carnival beads and join us in New Orleans for this world premiere
musical that promises to be a Mardi Gras you’ll never forget.
Kevin Ramsey returns
to The Rep after writing and directing last season’s Stackner
Cabaret hit GRAFTON CITY BLUES (07/08) as well as SAM COOKE – FOREVER
MR. SOUL (06/07). Previously at The Rep, Ramsey co-authored, directed
and choreographed IF THESE SHOES COULD TALK (1993/94). Ramsey’s
Broadway credits include CY COLEMAN’S THE LIFE, FIVE GUYS NAMED
MOE, OH, KAY and BLACK AND BLUE. Film and television credits include 24,
Judging Amy, CSI: Miami and The Hughleys. Kevin has
directed and choreographed for some leading regional theaters in
the country. His directorial and choreographic work was recently
represented in the Off-Broadway musical FROM MY HOMETOWN, as well
as the national commercial for GM Pontiac. Mr. Ramsey also has a
slate of theater, film and television projects currently in development.
The cast of FIRE ON THE BAYOU includes: Jeremy
Cohen (Professor); Jannie Jones (Queen
Marie); Scott Napoli (Traps); Milton Craig
Nealy (Spyboy Jambalaya) and Eric Noden (Dr.
Johnay). Jeremy Cohen, Jannie Jones and Eric Noden were all in
last season’s production of GRAFTON CITY BLUES. Scott
Napoli returns to The Rep after recently being seen in the Stackner
Cabaret production of ISN’T IT ROMANTIC. This will be Milton
Craig Nealy’s Rep debut.
Blog Critics had this
to say about cast members Jannie Jones, Jeremy Cohen and Eric Noden
in last year’s hit GRAFTON
CITY BLUES: “Jannie Jones, herself a product of parents who
thought of the blues as the Devil’s Music and who does perfect
justice to Rainey’s Black Bottom; Jeremy Cohen,
who plays piano, sings and does spot-on impersonations of the unique
Wisconsin accent, intonations and mannerisms; and Chicago bluesman
Eric Noden, whose mastery of the National Steel Resonator guitar
brings absolute authenticity to a stellar production.” If
last year’s hit show and stellar performances are any indication,
Stackner Cabaret audiences are in for a real treat this year with
FIRE ON THE BAYOU!

The Rep is supported in part by a grant

Communications Group (TCG), the national organization
for the nonprofit professional theater; and a member of Theatre
Wisconsin, the statewide association of non-profit
professional theaters. This theater operates under an
agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors'
Equity Association, the union of professional actors
and stage managers in the United States. The set, costume
and lighting designers are members of United
Scenic Artists,
a national labor union. This theater is an equal opportunity employer.
Except in plays where race itself is an issue, casting
is decided based on ability, not race.
