DOGPARK: The Musical is an all-new
musical canine comedy from the creators of CHAPS! and THEY
CAME FROM WAY OUT THERE. Follow
Daisy, Champ, Bogie and Itchy through their adventures at the hippest,
hottest place in town: the dog park, where every dog has his day
and love conquers all. Tickets can be purchased in person
at The Rep Ticket Office at 108 East Wells Street, or by telephone
at 414-224-9490. Tickets can also be purchased online 24/7 at milwaukeerep.com.
Speed Mating. Yappy Hour. Lovers with Leashes. Where can one
find such doggone fun events? At the dog park of course! Get
in on the dog park scene with Champ, the show dog; Bogie, the
territorial rebel without a collar; Itchy, the balloon-making
terrier with ADD and Daisy, the lone female who has an apparent
need for fur extensions. Watch as these canines have their day
in their beloved dog park. Does Daisy have what it takes to be
a champion show dog like Champ? Can Bogie escape the perils of
going collarless? Will Champ conquer love and also the dreaded
cone? Featuring such songs as the Two Dog Trot, Deep
Dog Doo Wop, Dogs
in Heat and That’s Mine, Don’t Touch It. DOGPARK:
The Musical will leave you wanting to capture your inner canine
and get down with the dogs. And remember, what happens in the dog
park stays in the dog park!
Playwrights Jahnna Beecham and Malcolm
Hillgartner have been writing together since 1985. Under the pseudonym
Jahnna N. Malcolm, they have written over 120 books for children and young
adults including Love Letters and Jewel Kingdom.
They wrote the musical CHAPS! (04/05 season), which, in addition
to being performed at The Rep, has played at 25 regional theaters
around the U.S. including the Cincinnati Playhouse, Artists Repertory
Theatre in Portland, Lambs Players Theatre in San Diego, Tacoma
Actors Guild in Washington and PCPA in Santa Maria, CA and the
Nashville Dinner Theatre. In collaboration with Michael J. Hume,
they wrote THEY CAME FROM WAY OUT THERE for The Rep’s 06/07
Stackner Cabaret season.
According to Jahnna Beecham the germination of the play came about
like this: “One day Sandy Ernst e-mailed us and said, “We’d
like to have another Beecham/Hillgartner and Hume musical. Give
us five ideas.” We instantly made a list of four and decided
we’d sleep on it and think of the fifth the next day. Our
partner Michael Hume, who happens to be our neighbor, returned
the next morning clutching a cup of coffee. I opened the door and
all he said was, “DOGPARK: The Musical.” We cheered.”
Michael J. Hume, co-author, is
an actor, writer and director. He is a company member
at Oregon Shakespeare Festival and has appeared in
16 seasons with OSF. Productions he has appeared in
include THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, KING JOHN, ROOM SERVICE,
THE BELLE’S STRATAGEM,
THE ROYAL FAMILY, OEDIPUS COMPLEX, WILD OATS, RICHARD II and NOISES
OFF. Regional credits include WOYZECK, JULIUS CAESAR
(Hartford Stage Company); THE CHERRY ORCHARD, TWELFTH
NIGHT, HAPPY END, THE NORMAN CONQUESTS (Capital Repertory
Theatre, Albany, NY) and seasons with American Conservatory Theater
and South Coast Repertory.
Director Jahnna Beecham has been a member of the Hope
Summer Repertory Theater acting company for seven seasons. In the
first five she served as a director and playwright, directing THE
NERD, EDUCATING RITA, THE RELUCTANT DRAGON and two productions
of CHAPS!, which she co-wrote with her husband, Malcolm Hillgartner.
In 2006, she appeared as Maggie in MEMORY HOUSE. Jahnna has performed with numerous regional theaters
including Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Denver Center Theatre Company,
Hartman Theater, Seattle Repertory Theatre and Oregon Shakespeare
Festival. In addition to directing at The Rep, Jahnna’s other
regional directing credits include The Cleveland Play House, Repertory
Theatre of St. Louis, Artists Repertory Theatre in Portland and
International Theatre of Vienna.
The cast of DOGPARK includes: Lenny Banovez (Champ); Chip
DuFord (Bogie); Jonathan Spivey (Itchy)
and Katherine Strohmaier (Daisy). Lenny Banovez
appeared in last season’s Cabaret
hit HULA HOOP SHA-BOOP and THEY CAME FROM WAY OUT THERE (06/07).
Katherine Strohmaier recently appeared in A CHRISTMAS CAROL
and THEY CAME FROM WAY OUT THERE (06/07). Chip DuFord also appeared
in THEY CAME FROM WAY OUT THERE as well as CHAPS! (04/05). This
will be Jonathan Spivey’s

for the nonprofit professional theater; and a member of Theatre
Wisconsin, the statewide association of non-profit
professional theaters. This theater operates under an
