of:
Quadracci Powerhouse Theater

2008 Opens: December 12, 2008 Closes: January

This one-woman tour de force performance explores multiple perspectives
on love, anger and adultery. When a desperate housewife suspects
that her husband is cheating, her rash act of revenge forever changes
the lives of everyone around her. Resident Acting Company Member
Deborah Staples transforms into several characters in this play
that will leave you questioning whether or not truth is really
just a matter of perception. (Note: Contains adult language and
themes.) Tickets can be purchased in person at The Rep
Ticket Office at 108 East Wells Street, or by telephone at 414-224-9490.
Tickets can also be purchased online 24/7 at milwaukeerep.com.
Playwright Robert Hewett attributes much of his
success as a playwright to his understanding of the unique pleasures
of live theater. In the days of electronic special effects, fight
scenes and massive explosions “you have to be prepared to
use all the tricks of the stage to succeed,” Hewett says.
In the one-woman play THE BLONDE, THE BRUNETTE AND THE VENGEFUL
REDHEAD, Hewett uses a theatrical structure that reveals surprises
in the plot bit by bit, in a ‘who-dun-it’ style. Though
the play explores the nature of truth, obligation and blame, Hewett
explains that it is not all drama and mystery. “I always
prefer to make sure there is a lot of laughter,” Hewett says. “The
rest will take care of itself.”
Hewett’s play GULLS received a Green Room Award in 1983,
and THE BLONDE, THE BRUNETTE AND THE VENGEFUL REDHEAD toured Australia
in 2006. His other shows include: JUST . . . ONE LAST DANCE, THE
ADMAN, WAKING EVE and GOODBYE MRS. BLORE.
In the latest edition of Prologue, The Rep’s Online
Subscriber Publication, Literary Director Kristin Crouch, asks “How
well do you really know your neighbors? In one moment of individual
madness, life in a quiet suburban neighborhood can change forever;
in the blink of an eye, the lives of friends and strangers become
a tangled mess, families unravel and entire communities turn upside
down. But what motivates a person to suddenly lose control?” These
are the types of questions that THE BLONDE, THE BRUNETTE AND THE
VENGEFUL REDHEAD explores.
Director Joseph Hanreddy has been Milwaukee Rep’s
Artistic Director since 1993. During his tenure, he has initiated
innovative collaborations with leading international theater companies,

and established one of the country’s finest acting ensembles.

THE TAVERN and, with Ed Morgan, A CHRISTMAS CAROL. As an actor
he has appeared in The Rep productions OF MICE AND MEN, A SKULL
IN CONNEMARA and Edward Albee’s THE GOAT OR, WHO IS SYLVIA?
The cast of THE BLONDE, THE BRUNETTE AND THE VENGEFUL
REDHEAD consists of only one actress, Rep Resident Acting
