The Rep Board of Trustees is pleased to announce
. . .
A “Perfectly Marvelous” Event
Saturday, May 1st • 6 pm
Featuring
Hugh Panaro, one of Broadway’s
leading men
There’s something dramatic in the air for Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s 2010
Gala. After 17 incredible seasons, The Rep’s Artistic Director
Joseph Hanreddy is handing the reins over to its new creative leader, Mark
Clements. This will be a unique opportunity to be a part of one of the most
historic and exciting nights ever held in Milwaukee theater! The Rep’s
Annual Gala will be held on May 1st, 2010 and will put attendees
center stage to celebrate with The Rep’s Resident Artists. It promises
to be a “Perfectly Marvelous Time!”
The Gala is The Rep’s final production of the year and is the exclamation
point on a spectacular season. This year’s Gala will be especially unique
as Rep artists work to celebrate Joe and welcome Mark.
This exciting event begins at 6:00 pm with cocktails and a silent auction
on The Rep’s Quadracci Powerhouse stage. As in the past, The Rep finds
items from a variety of exciting sources – making its silent auction
a treasure chest of the unique, unusual and spectacular! This year The Rep
will also offer a “Wine Pull” giving guests the opportunity to
win a wide range of distinct wines of every variety. Dinner will take place
backstage and be prepared by Marcus Catering and Events featuring the creative
talents of Chef Robert Ash.
Guests will travel back to the Quadracci Powerhouse for a Live Auction and
an exciting entertainment featuring Hugh Panaro, one of Broadway’s
illustrious leading men and a superlative tenor.
Mr. Panaro most recently had the pleasure of performing with the legendary
Barbra Streisand in her very first European tour. Prior to that, he starred
in the title role of LESTAT, Sir Elton John’s Broadway musical based
on Anne Rice’s infamous The Vampire Chronicles. For this role,
he received an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination. Last year, he starred
as Jean Valjean in the Walnut Street Theatre's outstanding production of LES
MISERABLES, a role which earned him praise from audiences and
reviewers alike, as well as the Barrymore Award. He recently starred in OLIVER!,
directed by Rep Incoming Artistic Director Mark Clements, once again at the
Walnut Street Theatre. Mr. Panaro has created numerous other Broadway leading
roles including Buddy in SIDESHOW, Julian Craster in Jule Styne’s last
musical THE RED SHOES and the title role in the American premiere of Cameron
MacIntosh’s MARTIN GUERRE.
Born in Pennsylvania, Mr. Panaro is a graduate of Temple University and the
recipient of the Boyer College of Music Certificate of Honor. Shortly after
moving to New York, he made his Broadway debut as Marius in LES
MISERABLES.
He performed the role of Gaylord Ravenal in Harold Prince’s SHOWBOAT
both on Broadway and in London’s prestigious West End. But it is Mr.
Panaro’s critically-acclaimed performance as the Phantom in Lord Andrew
Lloyd Webber’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA of the Opera for which
he is most notably recognized. Mr. Panaro is one of the few performers to have
been cast by Mr. Prince as both the Phantom and Raoul in the Broadway production.
The funds raised through The Rep’s Gala will help support the work of
Milwaukee Repertory Theater and its efforts to make a positive impact in southeastern
Wisconsin through its many productions, community outreach and educational
programs.
Individual tickets to The Rep’s 2010 Gala are $250. Tables of eight
are available for $2,000.
The event is Black Tie Optional with complimentary Valet Parking. For additional
information or
to RSVP, please call Becca Kitelinger, Development Events
Manager, at 414-290-5347 or e-mail development@milwaukeerep.com.
RSVP deadline is Friday, April 23, 2010.

When everyone supports the arts through UPAF, they help our
local economy, improving education and strengthening outreach
programs to the disabled and elderly – all while adding
culture to their own life. Support of UPAF is critical to
UPAF Member Groups’ ability
to continue to offer exceptional live performances, award-winning
education and outreach programming and substantial economic
impact to our region. To learn more about UPAF or to donate,
go to www.upaf.org.
The Rep is supported in part by a grant
from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of
Wisconsin. The Rep is a member of the League
of Resident Theatres (LORT), a management association
of some of the nation's largest non-profit professional
theaters that collectively bargains with the unions that
represent the actors, directors and designers that work
at The Rep; a constituent of Theatre
Communications Group (TCG), the national organization
for the nonprofit professional theater; and a member of Theatre
Wisconsin, the statewide association of non-profit
professional theaters. This theater operates under an
agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors'
Equity Association, the union of professional actors
and stage managers in the United States. The set, costume
and lighting designers are members of United
Scenic Artists,
a national labor union. This theater is an equal opportunity employer.
Except in plays where race itself is an issue, casting
is decided based on ability, not race.
