TEN CHIMNEYS AND MILWAUKEE REP TOGETHER
AGAIN
"The Plays of Lunt and Fontanne"
This fall, Ten Chimneys Foundation and Milwaukee Repertory Theater
launch the second season of "The Plays of Lunt and Fontanne:
Play Readings at Ten Chimneys." On the heels of a fun and enthusiastically
received inaugural season, this year's readings will once again
feature The Rep's Artistic Intern Company presenting plays from
Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne's outstanding body of work. The first
two offerings are THERE SHALL BE NO NIGHT on Monday, September 26th,
and THE GUARDSMAN on Monday, October 24th.
For The Rep's interns, the experience is educational and inspirational,
connecting these up-and-coming theater professionals to the spirit
of mentorship that pervades Ten Chimneys, thanks to Lunt-Fontanne
protégés such as Laurence Olivier, Julie Harris, and
Montgomery Clift. As one participating intern explained, "our
experience at Ten Chimneys was everything I could have hoped for
and more. It was a chance to celebrate our heritage as actors."
For audiences, it's an opportunity to enjoy some of the 20th-century's
most successful plays, at the estate of the legendary actors who
made them famous. Here's what audience members from the first season
had to say:
"What talented young actors!"
"What magic to hear these scripts read at Ten Chimneys."
"I can't wait until your fall readings . . . Save me a spot!"
"What a wonderful evening. Could not have been better. Laughed
myself silly and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. If future productions
are as good as last evening, the plans for a larger venue are not
far off. I, for one, am now telling anyone within earshot about
upcoming events."
THERE SHALL BE NO NIGHT - 7:00 p.m.,
September 26th

Lunts performed to packed houses in London throughout the Blitz.
(This first reading will be presented the night after Ten Chimneys
is slated to be featured on the national news magazine CBS News
Sunday Morning. The show airs from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on CBS.)
THE GUARDSMAN - 7:00 p.m., October
24th

This hilarious comedy by Ferenc Molnar marked the beginning of Lynn
and Alfred's ascent to becoming "the greatest acting couple
in theatre history." It was eventually recreated as the Lunts
only major film effort together.
HOW TO MAKE RESERVATIONS - Call (262) 968-4161 ext. 500, to reserve
seats for either reading. Both play readings will be held on Monday
nights at 7 p.m. $15 suggested donation at the door.
ABOUT TEN CHIMNEYS - Ten Chimneys, the home and retreat of Broadway
legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, is open to the public as
a world-class house museum and a national resource for theatre and
the arts. Ten Chimneys is located in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin, just
30 miles west of Milwaukee. Almost all of the estate's beguilingly
personal décor and collections are intact and remain unchanged
since the Lunts first assembled them in the 1930s and '40s. Ten
Chimneys is a National Historic Landmark, a "Save America's
Treasures" project site, and is listed in the National Register
of Historic Places. 2005 tours offered through November 12th. (262)

ABOUT THE REP'S ARTISTIC INTERNSHIP PROGRAM - As part of Milwaukee
Repertory Theater's commitment to ensemble-based theater, The Rep
has supported a unique and highly respected Artistic Internship
Program for nearly its entire 51-season institutional life. The
Artistic Internship Program not only allows The Rep to schedule
and execute an ambitious 15-show season in both economically feasible
and artistically inventive ways, but also to contribute to the growth
and development of the next generation of American theater artists.
For a full season (August through May), Artistic Interns become
a part of The Rep's company. Unlike many of their counterparts in
other regional theaters, The Rep's Artistic Interns have no technical
or administrative duties, allowing interns to devote their time
entirely to their area of professional interest (Acting, Directing
or Dramaturgy). Throughout their tenure at The Rep, interns have
the opportunity to work alongside The Rep's company members in mentoring
capacities and as fellow professionals. This past season, in addition
to ensemble roles in The Crucible,
A Christmas Carol, Yes.
No. Maybe So, and Lady Windermere's
Fan, Acting Interns played as many as 20 principal roles
throughout the season, and Directing Interns assisted nine of some
of the finest directors in regional theater. In the last five years
alone, The Rep has been proud to see a majority of outgoing interns
placed professionally at many of the nation's finest regional theaters.
