Distressed by her husband’s sudden lack of romantic interest, a young wife’s schemes lead to madness and mayhem. The wife and her best friend concoct a steamy plot to ensnare the unsuspecting husband. When a letter gets into too many wrong hands, chaos ensues and a group of couples end up on a wild goose chase through the risqué Hotel Coq d’Or in Paris, France, where they experience a dizzying torrent of revolving beds, slamming doors, complex misconceptions and mistaken identities. Will the sly wife and all her friends realize that misplaced deception and plotting are no substitute for the truth concerning matters of the heart? Find out in this French classic by Georges Feydeau.

Georges Feydeau was born and raised in Paris, France, in 1862. An actor and director, Feydeau wrote 39 plays between 1881 and 1916. He completed his first play, PAR LA FENÊTRE (THROUGH THE WINDOW, 1882), at the age of 20. Feydeau enjoyed his first major theatrical success with

TAILLEUR POUR DAMES (LADIES’ DRESSMAKER, 1886). A FLEA IN HER EAR has become Feydeau’s most well-known play in the English-speaking world. Other noteworthy plays include CHAMPIGNOL MALGRÉ LUI (CHAMPIGNOL IN SPITE OF HIMSELF, 1892) and LA DAME DE CHEZ MAXIM (THE GIRL FROM MAXIM’S, 1899). In 1941, Feydeau’s plays began appearing at the Comédie-Française, France’s venerable national theater. He is regarded as the finest French comic playwright since Molière.

Director László Marton, a native of Budapest, Hungary, is an internationally recognized theater director. Marton previously directed A DOLL’S HOUSE at Milwaukee Repertory Theater during the 2003/04 season. After graduating as a stage director from the Academy of Dramatic Art in Budapest, he joined one of the most significant Hungarian theater companies, the Vígszínház, in 1967. In 1979 he became a director-in-chief and since 1985 he has worked as the artistic director of the company. In 2003 he directed Ibsen’s THE WILD DUCK at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, which won an Irish Times Theatre Award for best director. His other awards and honors include Honorary Membership of the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama, membership in the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (USA), of which he was the first Hungarian member, and he was thrice the recipient of the Dora Award, Canada’s highest theatrical recognition.
