Haley Walker, originally from Austin, Texas, is now a New Yorker through and through. A divorcee with a teenage daughter and an insatiable love of shoes, she manages a successful restaurant that can’t quite sever its ties with the Romanian mafia. Now she’s decided to reenter the dating world. As she dresses for a series of dates that range from the hilarious to the bizarre, Haley invites us into her bedroom. She talks intimately about her life, job, wardrobe and encounters with men of every type. Eventually, she comes to realize that things aren’t always as they seem and sometimes what you’re looking for is right in front of you.

Her plays include ABSTRACT EXPRESSION, THE WATER’S EDGE, THE FAMILY OF MANN, SPIKE HEELS and an adaptation of Ionesco’s RHINOCEROS. Her play OMNIUM GATHERUM was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Her works have garnered numerous awards, including the National Theatre Conference Playwriting Award (1994) and William Inge New Voices Playwriting Award (2005). A collection of her short plays, REBECK REVISITED, was named one of the Ten Best Plays of 1999 by L.A. Weekly. In television she has written for Brooklyn Bridge, Dream On, L.A.Law. and Third Watch. She has been a writer and producer for Law and Order: Criminal Intent and NYPDBlue. Her film credits include Harriet the Spy and Catwoman. She is a playwright adviser at the Lark Theatre and a member of Naked Angels, New York Theatre Workshop’s Usual Suspects and HB Playwright’s Lab.
When asked what makes for the richest comedy, Rebeck responded that, “I find myself attracted to sardonic re-definitions which undercut or even explode emotional tensions, or release anger and laughter at the same time – the sort of thing that really great stand-ups like Lenny Bruce or George Carlin or Chris Rock excel at. There is a political element to that kind of comedy which is quite satisfying to me and which does appear in much of my work in subversive ways ....”
