Rising from a troubled childhood to become a legendary performer, she struggled to balance an increasingly successful career with a problematic marriage and the demands of motherhood. After succumbing to a dependency on drugs and a mental breakdown, Rosemary triumphantly overcame her challenges and secured her place in American music history. The concept of this production involved a collaborative effort among playwright David Scully and director David Hunter Koch. Clooney’s biography serves as a framework for the show, delivered to the audience in a narrative poe m f ormat that links all the songs together. The chronology of Clooney’s music is basically unaltered in the show as it reflects what was going on in her life at the time. Playwright David Scully has worked in movies, television, radio and theater professionally for more than 15 years. In this time Scully has had an opportunity to work with Bill Irwin, Larry Fishburne, Curtis Hanson (Director of L.A. Confidential) and James Earl Jones, among others. He has also performed his unusual brand of stand-up in numerous venues including sketch comedy shows on both NBC and CBS. He’s the recent recipient of the coveted Telly Award for co-writing dialogue for the Guerilla Gardner television series. He’s won the All Star Software Award, Children’s Software Revue 2000, and Best Picks for the Holidays Award from Choosing Children’s Software in 1999. Other awards include the Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Award, numerous awards from the Seattle Arts Commission Award for Playwriting, and the Theodore Ward Playwriting Contest in Chicago , Illinois. David Hunter Koch makes his home in Seattle, Washington, performing, producing and directing theater, video and film. He created the Cabaret De Paris in 1989, Seattle ’s preeminent Cabaret theater, where he produced and directed over 60 musical productions including the original production of KING OF COOL starring Jimi Ray Malary. He was named Theatrical Entrepreneur of the Year by The Seattle Weekly. Koch also directed singer David Byrne and guitarist Pat Metheny’s documentary concert videos and most recently wrote and directed the new musical MUSICA VITAE for Seattle ’s Century Ballroom. His Milwaukee Rep credits include CHAPS!, KING OF COOL and JAZZ ROYALTY. Actress and singer Katherine Strohmaier is playing the title role of Rosemary Clooney. This marks her Milwaukee Rep debut. Katerine Strohmaier credits include SINGING IN THE RAIN (5th Avenue Theater) and the premiere of Martin Charnin's ROBIN HOOD: THE LEGEND CONTINUES (Village Theater). She also works as a music director and pianist. Paul Helm is the music director and musician for BLUE ROSE: THE ROSEMARY CLOONEY STORY. This show marks his Milwaukee Rep debut. Helm is an actor, musical director, pianist and vocalist.
