THE ANDREWS BROTHERS want to support their country during WWII by enlisting in the army, but due to flat feet, poor vision and asthma, they aren’t accepted. Instead, they become stage technicians for the USO. The three brothers, Max, Lawrence, and Patrick, are in for a surprise – and the chance of a lifetime – when the famous Andrews Sisters are quarantined before one of their USO shows. With the help of Peggy Jones, the star who is scheduled to perform opposite of The Andrews Sisters, the three brothers take the stage and put on a hilarious performance, mimicking what they’ve only seen from backstage.
This production is written and directed by Rep favorite Roger Bean. He has written many popular and entertaining shows for the Stackner Cabaret. Mr. Bean says ofhis new musical,“Here we create the atmosphere of a rag-tag USO team (a very real organization with an important and impressive history); sing songs familiar to many in the audience; and try to live up to the memory of a legendary group that inspired the creation of THE ANDREWS BROTHERS.”
Roger Bean, director and playwright of THE ANDREWS BROTHERS, also wrote and directed last season’s Stackner Cabaret hit, LANA MAE’S HONKY-TONK LAUNDRY (04/05). His work has become a favorite of audiences at The Rep, writing and directing such hits as WINTER WONDERETTES (03/04), BEACH BLANKET BASH! (01/02), ROUTE 66 (00/01), THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES (98/99, 00/01), THAT’S AMORÉ (99/00), DON’T TOUCH THAT DIAL: THE SPIN-OFF (99/00) and DON’T TOUCH THAT DIAL (97/98). His work has also been seen on the stages of Madison Repertory Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Florida Studio Theater, L.A. ’s Hermosa Beach Playhouse, Utah Musical Theater, Skylight Opera Theatre, and several others. Mr. Bean currently lives in California and serves as the Executive Director of Steele Springs Productions, a theatrical licensing house. He is also a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, as well as the Dramatist’s Guild.
Included in the cast are Ben Cherry, who returns to the Stackner cabaret where he originated roles in ROUTE 66 and BEACH BLANKET BASH! for Roger Bean. Also included in THE ANDREWS BROTHERS trio are two newcomers to The Rep. Adam Estes, who has appeared in performances at Skylight Opera Theatre, and Michael Jenkinson, who spent two years with the national touring companies of GREASE and FAME. In addition, actress Melinda Pfundstein returns to The Rep after being seen last season in The Rep’s Quadracci Powerhouse production of YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU.

The Rep also produces an annual production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The Rep’s home, the Patty and Jay Baker Theater Complex, accommodates the Quadracci Powerhouse Theater, the Stiemke Theater and the Stackner Cabaret. The Rep is also “home” to a Resident Acting Company of 11 actors who perform with The Rep throughout the season.
The Rep is proud to be a member of the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF), which provides major annual financial support. The Rep is a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), a management association of some of the nation’s largest non-profit professional theaters that collectively bargains with the unions that represent the actors, directors and designers that work at The Rep; a constituent of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for the nonprofit professional theater; and a member of Theatre Wisconsin, the statewide association of non-profit professional theaters. This theater operates under an agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors' Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers in the United States.
