Stackner favorite songstress Carolynne Warren is back in town and
coming to the Cabaret over the holiday season. You won’t
want to miss this show full of rollicking tunes and a delightful
cast of kooky characters all brought to you by a one-of-a-kind
performer! Tickets can be purchased in person at The Rep’s
Ticket Office at 108 East Wells Street, or by telephone at 414-224
9490. Tickets can also be purchased online 24/7
at milwaukeerep.com.
Carolynne Warren has been described as a “delightfully earthy
entertainer” (Damien Jaques, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).
Often compared to Ethel Merman, Ms. Warren is a radiant and exuberant
performer who lights up the Stackner Cabaret stage. After a four-year
absence from Milwaukee Repertory Theater, the accomplished actress
brings a new colorful show full of wonderfully eccentric characters
to the Cabaret. In CAROLIN’ CAROLYNNE’S COMIN’ TO
TOWN, Carolynne (as Cathy McCarty) is the cruise director for the “Blues
Cruise” for the Wisconsin contingent of the Third Annual
Therapeutic Run. Carolynne gives her suggestion, “If you
get depressed around the holidays, why not escape for 90 minutes
of laughter in the Stackner?” Her range of characters spans
from an advice-giving mermaid to a game show host Sue-Me Boreman
to a whole slew of other unforgettable characters. She will end
the show as herself singing some of her favorite holiday songs.
As she puts it, “audiences will get a blast of my skewed
vision of the greatest songs of the season.” So if you’re
looking for something a little different to do to celebrate the
holidays, spending an evening with songstress Carolynne Warren
may be just the ticket.
Carolynne Warren has entertained
Stackner Cabaret and Milwaukee Repertory Theater audiences for
several years. Previous Rep productions include: CAROLIN’ CAROLYNNE
(1996/97), CAROLIN’ CAROLYNNE:
LIFE OUT LOUD (1997/98), THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES (1997/98), CAROLIN’ CAROLYNNE
RIDES AGAIN! (1998/99), SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS (1998/99), and SOPHIE
TUCKER: AMERICAN LEGEND (2002/03). Ms. Warren received an After
Dark Award as Cabaret Artist of the Year in Chicago, and was nominated
for a Jeff Award in her performance in SYLVIA’S REAL GOOD
ADVICE. For the past four years, she has been in Los Angeles where
she worked on a two-woman show directed by Tim Allen, wrote a children’s
television show, designed dolls and became “a semi-professional
schmoozer.”
J.R. Sullivan, a gifted director, has worked
with numerous prestigious theaters throughout the country including:
Northlight Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, American Players
Theatre, The Studio Theatre in Washington D.C. and The Pearl
Theatre in New York City. Mr. Sullivan has been working with
the Utah Shakespearean Festival as the Associate Artistic Director
since 2002. Additionally, Sullivan is credited with the founding
of the New American Theater in Rockford, Illinois where he served
as the producing director until 1994. He has directed many productions
for The Rep. Credits include The Rep’s recent Quadracci
Powerhouse production DOUBT, BORN YESTERDAY, YOU CAN’T
TAKE IT WITH YOU, THE FOREIGNER, BARRYMORE, PROOF, WIT, OF MICE
AND MEN, DRACULA, THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO, INSPECTING CAROL,
ALL IN THE TIMING and THE PUPPETMASTER OF LODZ. Mr. Sullivan
is currently a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers
and the Actors’ Equity Association.
William Knowles, a Milwaukee native, is a graduate
of Howard University and University of Massachusetts. He was
the musical director for The Rep productions of last season’s
LADY DAY AT EMERSON’S BAR & GRILL, ELLINGTON: THE LIFE & MUSIC
OF THE DUKE, JAZZ ROYALTY, THE KING OF COOL and DINAH WAS. He
was awarded the 2001 Helen Hayes Award for Best Musical Direction
with DINAH WAS. Mr. Knowles was also nominated for the 2005 Helen
Hayes Award for his work on TAMBOURINES TO GLORY. He has recorded
with poet Sonya Sanchez (Full Moon of Sonya) and Jimmy
Jackson (On My Way Home – Blue Canoe Records).
