ANOTHER MIDSUMMER NIGHT McGIVERN is an evening
of amusing adventures and warm summer memories with Milwaukee’s
own John McGivern. Join John for a sweet trip down memory lane
as he shares his wonderful reminiscences. He will tell stories
from Memorial Day to Labor Day and all the summer in between. These
stories will give the audience a glimpse into the McGivern family
history. There are even some home movies! If you saw A MIDSUMMER
McGIVERN last summer, join us for ANOTHER MIDSUMMER
NIGHT McGIVERN, featuring some great new stories.
Last year, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel theater reviewer
Damien Jaques had this to say about John McGivern: “He is
probably better known for his starring performances in the comic
stage whodunit SHEAR MADNESS and his weekly radio appearances,
but McGivern is at his best alone on the stage, talking about his
life, sometimes with confessional candor. His new show, A MIDSUMMER
NIGHT McGIVERN, is the best of his best.”
Writer/Actor John McGivern is excited to be returning
to The Rep’s
Stiemke Theater. He
performed his one-man shows there before moving
back to Milwaukee. He also appeared in The Rep’s Stiemke
Theater production of LOVERS AND EXECUTIONERS during the 2001/02
season. Many Milwaukee audiences remember John from his lead role
of Tony Whitcomb in Milwaukee’s production of SHEAR MADNESS.
He has performed the lead role in SHEAR MADNESS in Chicago, St.
Paul, Tampa, Washington, D .C., San Francisco and Milwaukee. Other
Milwaukee credits include: SANTALAND DIARIES, FULLY COMMITTED,
HOMEBODY KABUL, TAKE ME OUT and THE ODD COUPLE. He will also appear
in THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP at Next Act Theatre running April 3 – May
4. He is the writer and performer of four critically-acclaimed
one-man shows: MIDWEST SIDE STORIES, ONE OF THE BOYS – STORIES
FROM THE MIDWEST and JOHN McGIVERN LIVE. He was seen in his all-new
show, JOHN McGIVERN’S WINTER TALES, at Next Act Theatre over
the holidays.
John is a frequent guest with Dave and Carole on 96.5 WKLH. He
can be seen on Milwaukee’s WTMJ-4 with his entertainment
segment called The Daily Dish McGivern Style. He also
appears on Time Warner Cable’s Wisconsin on Demand Channel
in Journeys with John McGivern and as the host
of Milwaukee’s Battle of the Chefs. Other television
credits include We’re Funny that Way on HBO, Out
There II on Comedy Central and Politically Incorrect,
where he was seen sitting next to Sally Field. John was knighted
by Julie Andrews in the hit film, Princess Diaries.
Director Edward Morgan is a frequent collaborator
with John McGivern, having recently directed him in JOHN McGIVERN’S
WINTER TALES at Next Act Theatre and last summer’s production
of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT McGIVERN at the Marcus Center for the Performing
Arts, a show which was taped in August for Milwaukee Public
TV. Mr. Morgan is a freelance director and writer. He recently
directed the Handreddy/Morgan adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL for
the Clarence Brown Theatre in Knoxville. Other projects include:
HANK WILLIAMS: LOST HIGHWAY at the Virginia Stage Company; AS YOU
LIKE IT for Case Western’s
MFA program at The Cleveland Play House; FAITH HEALER at Next Act
Theatre; a workshop of his Faulkner adaptation TWENTY SEVEN with
the MFA actors at UVA and a casting project in Chicago for CIRQUE
DU SOLEIL. Mr. Morgan served for six seasons as Milwaukee Rep’s
Associate Artistic Director, directing numerous productions,
including CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, A DELICATE BALANCE and
THE WEIR, THE GENERAL FROM AMERICA, PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE
and several of
his own adaptations. Mr. Morgan is a graduate of Trinity Repertory
Conservatory, a member of Actor's Equity and the Society of Stage
Directors and Choreographers, a recipient of the Drama League of
NY Director’s
Project fellowship. He and his work have
been honored in Washington, D.C. with Helen Hayes nominations and
awards. Mr. Morgan has written for various magazines and won grants
from the Wisconsin Council for the Humanities, Irish Fest Foundation
and Pier Wisconsin.
