Four girlfriends gather to celebrate the upcoming wedding of one of their own. With songs like Baby I’m Yours, I Will Follow Him, A Fool in Love and Easier Said Than Done, love in the 1960s never sounded so good! A new musical comedy revue from the Cabaret hit-master who brought us THE ANDREWS BROTHERS, THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES and ROUTE 66, and more. Tickets can be purchased in person at The Rep Ticket Office at 108 East Wells Street, or by telephone at 414-224 9490. Tickets can also be purchased online 24/7 at milwaukeerep.com.
WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE? takes place in a 1966 living room. Millie is getting married in a couple of days and is visited by three of her girlfriends, Sally, Florence and Dee Dee. As the drinking and talking gets underway, each young woman begins sharing about her respective love life. During the conversation, a magic eight ball is brought out for fun, but leads to the revealing of well-kept secrets. Six months pass and another marriage is to be celebrated. All four ladies are brought back together again where they drink and talk about upcoming events. After the liquid refreshments have been flowing, Millie breaks down because of what Sally asks of her. Sally explains she is doing it for a reason. Millie responds with, “my marriage was the eight ball in the corner pocket.” Will Millie, Florence and Dee Dee understand that no matter how bad love becomes, friendship is always there to fall back on? WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE? re-affirms that during real-life struggles, friendship will unveil its everlasting strength.
Roger Bean, director and playwright of WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE?, also wrote and directed the recent Stackner Cabaret hit, THE ANDREWS BROTHERS, from last season. His creative work has become a favorite of audiences at The Rep, writing and directing such hits as LANA MAE’S HONKY-TONK LAUNDRY, WINTER WONDERETTES, BEACH BLANKET BASH!, ROUTE 66, THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES, THAT’S AMORÉ, DON’T TOUCH THAT DIAL: THE SPIN-OFF and DON’T TOUCH THAT DIAL. His work has also been seen on the stages of Madison Repertory Theatre, Delaware Theatre Company, Utah Shakespearean Festival, Florida Studio Theater, L.A. ’s Hermosa Beach Playhouse, Utah Musical Theater, Skylight Opera Theatre, as well as many others. Mr. Bean currently lives in California and serves as the Executive Director of Steele Springs Productions, a theatrical licensing house. He is also a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, as well as the Dramatist’s Guild.
Mr. Bean recently commented, “I’ve found Milwaukee audiences incredibly generous with their feedback and responses, and that has helped tremendously as I make finishing touches and get my shows ready for other theaters around the country. I’m proud to say that all of my original shows have started at Milwaukee Rep: THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES has gone on to over 30 productions; WINTER WONDERETTES has had over 25; ROUTE 66 has had well over 50 productions; both HONKY TONK LAUNDRY and THE ANDREWS BROTHERS are just beginning to make the rounds. I hope that WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE? will have an exciting life around the country as well. For those of you who are WONDERETTES fans, a marvelous production just opened in Los Angeles to absolute rave reviews. If you can’t make it to Los Angeles, we’ll be on our way to New York soon. . . .”
Included in the cast of WHY DO FOOLS FALL IN LOVE? are: Lillian Castillo (Dee Dee), making her debut appearance at Milwaukee Rep; Susannah Hall (Sally), she appeared at the Stackner Cabaret during the 2004/05 season as Cindy Lou in WINTER WONDERETTES; and Robin Long (Florence) and Jessica Rush (Millie) also making their Rep debuts.

Milwaukee Repertory Theater is a nationally recognized theater company that presents a critically-acclaimed selection of compelling dramas, powerful classics, award-winning contemporary works and lively Cabaret shows on three stages from September through May. The Rep also produces an annual production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The Rep’s home, the Patty and Jay Baker Theater Complex, contains the Quadracci Powerhouse Theater, the Stiemke Theater and the Stackner Cabaret. The Rep is also “home” to a Resident Acting Company of 11 actors who perform with The Rep throughout the season.
The Rep is proud to be a cornerstone member of the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF), which provides major annual financial support. The Rep is a member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), a management association of some of the nation’s largest non-profit professional theaters that collectively bargains with the unions that represent the actors, directors and designers that work at The Rep; a constituent of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for the nonprofit professional theater; and a member of Theatre Wisconsin, the statewide association of non-profit professional theaters. This theater operates under an agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors' Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers in the United States. The set, costume and lighting designers are members of United Scenic Artists, a national labor union. This theater is an equal opportunity employer. Except in plays where race itself is an issue, casting is decided based on ability, not race.
